Pikey Peak Trek

Overview

The Pikey Peak trek is an amazingly adventurous yet short trek in the Khumbu trails of Nepal. This trek is a relatively new adventure that takes you closer to the home of the world’s peak, Everest. You will get to see magical vistas of the mountains and landscapes of the Himalayan foothills. This trek will take you to several Sherpa hamlets. You then get to see mountains like Dhaulagiri, Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga up close to the far west. We will begin this trek from Kathmandu and end it by returning back to Kathmandu. The trek kicks off by driving from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar via a private vehicle. Then we will trek to Jhapre from Dhaap Bazaar, passing Sigane. From Jhapre, we head to the Pikey Base Camp. We will then cross the Pikey Peak and reach Junbesi. This trek will be quite short. However, it will be an amazing option to explore the Khumbu region. Khumbu houses many remote trails that are popular for trekking. However, they require a lot of days to complete. Plus, you need to have great physical fitness in Nepal to comfortably finish the trek. The Pikey Peak trek is an alternative that allows you to explore Khumbu in a shorter time with less effort.

Itinerary

• Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar (2,850m / 7 hours, Distance 250km by private vehicle)
• Day 02: Trek from Dhap Bazaar to Jhapre (2,815m / 4 hours) via Sigane, Distance 13km
• Day 03: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp (3,640m / 5 hours, Distance 15km)
• Day 04: Trek from Pikey Base Camp to Junbesi (2,680m / 6 hours) via Pikey Peak (4,065m), Distance 22km
• Day 05: Exploration trip to Thupten Choling Gompa (2,920m / 4 hours, Distance 9km)
• Day 06: Trek from Junbesi to Phaplu (2,380m / 4 hours, Distance 11km)
• Day 07: Drive from Phaplu to Kathmandu (9 hours by private vehicle)

What is Included

• Three meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) including a cup of tea/coffee.
• Trekking Lodge (Tea House) accommodations throughout the trek.
• All necessary permits and paperwork.
• Private Jeep from Kathmandu to Dhap and from Phaplu to Kathmandu.
• A highly experienced, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, well English-speaking, well-trained, government-licensed guide, with all salary, food, drinks, accommodation, transport and insurance covered.
• Strong, helpful porters with proper equipment (1 porter = two people), including salary, food, drinks, accommodation and insurance.
• Medical supplies (first aid kit available).
• Arrangement of emergency helicopter service (paid by your travel insurance company).
• Use of sleeping bag, down jacket and walking poles (if you don’t have your own; to be returned after trip). Maintenance and washing charge: $10 USD per item.
• Sherpa Walk Adventure T-shirt, cap and duffel bag.
• Pikey Peak route map.
• Oximeter to check pulse, oxygen saturation and heart rate twice daily (useful for monitoring Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) symptoms).
• Assistant guide for groups above 6+ people.

• Airport pick-up and drop for international flight arrival and departure.
• Accommodation and meals whilst you are in Kathmandu.
• Nepal entry visa fee ($50 USD for 30 days visa on arrival).
• Travel insurance.
• International airfare.
• Personal expenses.
• Water, fizzy drinks, extra tea/coffee, and desserts/snacks.
• Hot shower, battery charging, use of Wi-Fi.
• Tips for the guide, porter and driver (highly expected).
